Next Friday, September 1, comes into force the provision of the new child labor law that restricts the number of hours that school-aged children can work.

Thus, from September 1, young people who are obliged to attend school will be able to work up to 17 hours a week, including a maximum of 10 hours from Monday to Friday, recalls the Commission for Standards, Equity, occupational health and safety (CNESST).

The Minister of Labor, Jean Boulet, had passed this law on the supervision of child labor, last spring, to counter the increase in occupational injuries among young workers and to promote school perseverance.

Note that these restrictions on the number of hours of work do not apply during periods when there is no school for more than seven days, such as during the summer holidays, the holiday season or school break week.
