A formality that should not be forgotten. Every year, it’s the same thing, you must declare your income to the tax authorities and notify them of any change in your family situation, such as the birth of a child, a marriage or a divorce. The 2023 campaign opens this Thursday, April 13 and the end date depends on the department in which you are domiciled. Some have six weeks to finalize their procedures, while others are luckier and have two additional weeks.

Since 2019, writes the Directorate General of Public Finance, “taxpayers whose main residence has Internet access must submit their declaration electronically”. If you are unable to do so, then you can still submit a paper declaration, to be sent on a different date from the digital version. Be careful to respect the dates set by the public service, because you expose yourself to penalties if you do not complete your tax return. The latter is effectively compulsory for all people who reside in France and who are no longer attached to the tax household of their parents, this “regardless of the amount of income, even if it is zero or low”. In the event of a breach, here is what you risk:

Three dates are to be remembered for the end of your declaration, one of which will arrive very soon. Consult the list of the 19 departments concerned.
