Nothing surprising. After having informed you of the drop in prices of various products for this month of July 2023, nothing helps. The portfolios of the French will still suffer. Various foodstuffs that are real stars of the summer are once again experiencing a dazzling price increase. Sausage, ice cream, salad, sodas, alcohol or even mosquito repellent… In short, nothing is spared, starting with consumers looking for low prices.

This rise is hardly a surprise even though prices had started to stabilize in recent weeks. Emmanuel Macron was right: at the end of April, the head of state warned about “food prices”, while warning the French that “it’s going to be hard until the end of the summer”. However, some indicators would be favorable to a downward trend before the end of this year 2023. Patience is therefore called for…

Over one year, according to the provisional estimate produced at the end of the month, consumer prices should increase by 4.5% in June 2023, after 5.1% the previous month. This further decline in inflation would be due to the decline in energy prices and the slowdown in food prices. The prices of services should increase at a rate close to that of the previous month and those of manufactured goods should accelerate slightly due to the later start and end of the summer sales this year.

Over one month, consumer prices should increase by 0.2% in June 2023, after falling by 0.1% in May. Energy prices should rebound slightly in the wake of oil product prices. Finally, food prices, excluding fresh produce, are set to slow for the third consecutive month, according to the latest figures published by INSEE on 30 June.
