(Pittsburgh) T. J. Watt recovered a loose ball from DeShaun Watson and ran 17 yards to the end zone for the game-winning touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 26-22, Monday evening.
Browns star running back Nick Chubb injured his knee in the game.
The Steelers (1-1) beat the Browns (1-1) for the 20th straight time at home in the regular season.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith returned an interception for a touchdown on the first play of the game, with the Browns on offense.
The Browns played the majority of the final three quarters without Chubb, who was escorted off the field with what appeared to be a second serious injury to his left knee. He suffered a dislocation and tore three ligaments while he was a student at Georgia.
Chubb’s leg bent unnaturally upon contact. The injury was so difficult to watch that only one replay was shown to the fans on site.
Moreover, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated that Chubb’s season was over.
Watson completed 22 of 40 passes, for 235 yards and a touchdown. He was the victim of an interception and received two penalties.
The Browns were punished eight times, for a total of 81 yards.
The Steelers avoided starting the season with an 0-2 record for the first time since 2019. Quarterback Kenny Pickett completed half of his 30 passes, for 222 yards.
