After many years of study and often a busy career, the doctor still has to take various steps before accessing a deserved rest. He has, in fact, obligations with regard to professional bodies, social organizations, but also to his patients. When can the doctor retire and what conditions must be met?

The doctor has the possibility of liquidating his retirement from the basic scheme from the legal retirement age, which depends on his year of birth. He therefore has the capacity to benefit from the pension from the basic scheme at the full rate as soon as he has accumulated the required number of quarters of insurance. For the supplementary schemes and ASV (supplementary old-age allowance), the pension can be liquidated at the full rate from the age of 65. He must notify the CARMF a few months before the planned date of cessation of activity to prepare his file.

When retiring, the doctor also has the obligation to notify the Departmental Council of the Order of the cessation of activity. The latter has, in fact, the need to take note of it and to inform the National Council of the Order. Finally, it is essential for him to warn his patients sufficiently in advance so that they can anticipate this cessation of activity. They will be able to decide who will follow their health file next. In the case where the doctor has a successor, he must leave the files at his disposal, then inform his clientele so that they can choose to continue the care in this office or not.
