(Minneapolis) The Minnesota Twins placed Joey Gallo on the 10-day disabled list and recalled Quebecer Édouard Julien on Tuesday.

During pre-game practice routines, Gallo didn’t see enough improvement in his right intercostal muscle strain.

The Twins’ first baseman has missed the last three games and his move to the disabled list is retroactive to April 8, according to the Twins’ announcement.

Gallo, who signed a one-year, $11 million contract this offseason, hit .278 with three home runs and seven RBIs in seven games this season.

His injury opens the door for Julien, who ranks 96th among the top prospects according to the Major League Baseball website.

In eight games with the St. Paul Saints this season, at the AAA level, the Quebec second baseman posted a .276 batting average with two long balls and three RBIs.

The Twins wrap up their series against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
