(Newark) Nick Bjugstad and Nick Schmaltz scored in a shootout and the Arizona Coyotes beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3 Friday night after blowing a two-goal lead.

Schmaltz also had a goal and an assist in regular time, while Matt Dumba and Sean Durzi scored the team’s other goals in their opening game. Rookie Logan Cooley had two assists in his NHL debut, and Karel Vejmelka stopped 33 shots.

Jesper Bratt scored twice and had an assist as well. Dougie Hamilton had a goal and an assist, while Jack Hughes had three assists in the loss. Akira Schmid made 30 saves.

Dumba scored at 6:22 of the first period, in his Coyotes debut after 10 seasons with the Minnesota Wild.

Durzi then made it 2-0 on the power play. However, the Devils scored three straight goals in 11 minutes of play.
