(Washington) Sidney Crosby scored two power play goals, Evgeni Malkin had a goal and three assists, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Washington Capitals 4-0 on Friday for their first win this season.

Crosby scored his first goal by falling to the ground in front of the net. His second of the game was assisted by Malkin, who passed the puck to him. The Penguins captain took a one-timer to beat Charlie Lindgren.

Defenseman Erik Karlsson made an important play in the seconds before Malkin’s goal, preventing the puck from leaving the zone.

For the Penguins, Tristan Jarry stopped Alex Ovechkin alone and made 19 saves for the shutout.

Reilly Smith scored the Penguins’ fourth goal.

It was the first time the Capitals had been shut out in a home opener in 49 years.
