A heat wave historic in its intensity, but short compared to the great episode of 2003. Here is how Régis Crépet, meteorologist for La Chaîne Météo, describes the high temperatures that have submerged France since July 11, 2022. In the columns of the site specializing in meteorology, he explains: “In this very hot context, a brief but very intense heat wave hit the west of France on Monday, with around a hundred monthly and absolute records broken. 90% of the stations in Brittany thus broke their absolute records “.

However, the heat wave as such only lasted a day and a half, even two and a half days in the northern half of the country, while it lasted up to five days in the south of the territory. “As for the heat wave, it looks set to last, especially in the south, because it started eight days ago and is set to continue,” summarizes the forecaster. If temperatures gradually drop over most of France, a further rise in mercury is expected on Thursday. “We will once again be close to the heat wave threshold for a day, but not commensurate with the episode of this beginning of the week”, nuance La Chaîne Météo.

In the south of the country, on the other hand, the heat wave continues, so much so that there is no end of heat expected to date in ten departments. You can find them in detail in our slideshow below. In addition, the specialized site has placed several departments on yellow or orange heat wave alert between Thursday July 21, 9 a.m. and Saturday July 23, 6 p.m. Here is the list of those placed in orange vigilance:
