(Montreal) Midfielders Mathieu Choinière and Samuel Piette have been selected by the Canadian national team for the upcoming international break, October 9-17.

The interim head coach of the Canadian selection, Mauro Biello, retained their services for a friendly match against Japan. This duel will take place at Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata, Japan on October 13.

For Choinière, who is 24, this will be a second camp with the senior national team after the one in Bahrain in November 2022 ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

This camp will also mark the return of Piette to the maple leaf squad. Injured at the start of the season, the midfielder has not joined a national team camp since his call-up to the 2022 World Cup. Piette has been capped 66 times by Canada since his debut in 2012.

Canada will use the October window as part of its preparations for the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League, which will serve as a qualifying tournament for Concacaf teams ahead of the CONMEBOL Copa America tournament in 2024.

Canada will begin its Concacaf Nations League journey in the quarter-finals, which will be played in a home-and-away format during the FIFA international window in November.
