Jérémy Savoie started running long distances last May. This weekend, seven months later, he will run 165 kilometers in one go at the 24h Tremblant. If he succeeds, he will become the youngest person to achieve such a feat at this event.

Savoie’s evolution in the world of racing is impressive, even fascinating. To understand it well, let’s first go through a few dates:

We’re moving on. And that’s not all. To prepare for the 24h Tremblant, Savoie covered a distance of 100 km on November 11 and 18.

“It was still very difficult. Especially the second one, because I wasn’t 100% recovered from the first one that I had done [a week earlier],” he says to your already stunned La Presse representative.

Small detail, which we had overlooked until now: Jérémy Savoie is 20 years old. And since he started running such distances, he hasn’t taken a day off. Every morning, the person who owns his own real estate investment company gets up between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. for his training which lasts between an hour and an hour and a quarter. “This morning, I’m at 178 days in a row,” he blurted.

For the record, Jérémy Savoie is a former hockey player. In 2022, after playing a season with a New Jersey team playing in the Eastern Hockey League, he decided to hang up his skates and launch into the world of real estate full time. Then, like any good sportsman, he looked for a new hobby that would allow him to stay active.

That’s how he began to draw inspiration from former Navy SEAL David Goggins, a long-distance runner followed by 9.9 million people on Instagram. In May, a few months after he started running 2 or 3 km distances, Jérémy read Goggins’ book, which inspired him to start running long distances too.

The young man has no mental or physical trainer. “It’s really on my own that I evolved mentally through these races,” he says. However, aware that he must “be careful”, he would like to become more “sophisticated” in his running.

Still, on Saturday, at noon, Jérémy Savoie, who is part of the Le Banc de l’immobilier team, will start the 24h Tremblant with the objective of covering 165 km in 24 hours, “alone and without stop, except for a few very, very slight pauses during the event.”

“To be honest, there’s definitely going to be the snow aspect that I hadn’t anticipated. It’s going to be another additional challenge, if you like. I hope the track gets cleared! “, he exclaims with a laugh.

The Blainvillois now knows what to expect when he covers such distances. On Saturday, he will push his limits. A concept that he is starting to know well.

As is the tradition of the event, Jérémy raises funds for the beneficiary foundations of 24h Tremblant, which help sick children. He has so far raised $3,050 of a $10,000 goal.

“I lost my grandfather [to cancer] this year. It’s correct, he had made a life for himself even if he left too young. But there are children who have not had the chance to have this life again and who have been in the hospital since they were young. It sure adds extra motivation to tell myself that I hope I can make a difference for them. »

As Jérémy Savoie is unstoppable, he already has in mind the challenge that will follow that of the 24h Tremblant: he is considering a Montreal-Quebec race, a distance of 270 km, also accompanied by fundraising.

“I’ve never stopped evolving in my racing and I don’t plan to,” he says. Each time, it allows me to push my own limits and probably also those of society in general. This is one of the reasons why I do it too. »
