The second season of LOL: Who has the last laugh? will feature eight comedians, an actor and… Roxane Bruneau. The singer participated in the filming of the new episodes with a diverse group of personalities, La Presse learned.

Patrick Huard will once again pilot this unique competition, adapted from a format of Japanese origin (Documental), in which 10 personalities spend a day locked together, doing everything they can to make others laugh, while remaining themselves -same impassive. Because as soon as a competitor laughs or smiles, it’s automatic elimination… or almost. Last season, contestants usually received a warning before being kicked out of the loft.

This second season will rely on the experience of Stéphane Rousseau. For a few hours, the stand-up comedian and actor changed film sets, abandoning the hospital corridors of STAT to join the set of LOL: who will laugh last?.

Stéphane Rousseau will compete against Philippe Laprise, Katherine Levac, Neev, Rosalie Vaillancourt and Mariana Mazza. Fabien Cloutier, who is currently performing his second one-man show, Délicat, will also try to win the $100,000 purse. This amount will be donated to a charity chosen by the winner.

The younger generation will be represented by Tailaire Laguerre, known to many by his pseudonym, Tai TL. Aged 21, this Montrealer of Haitian origin has become a social media star in recent years. He has 658,000 and 1,700,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, respectively. Last spring, he performed four times at the Casino de Paris.

Pier-Luc Funk will also appear in the show’s credits. The actor and formidable improviser accepted the invitation from Productions Attraction (Live from the Universe, The Chefs), and our little finger tells us that we will have to keep an eye on him.

As for Roxane Bruneau, her presence will surprise many, except perhaps her unconditional fans, who watch her on YouTube and company. She often posts videos with a humorous tone, which she concocts herself. On Facebook, the singer introduces herself as a “comedian, actress and singer-songwriter”. How will she cope with her little jokes, surrounded by a group of seasoned professionals? The bets are open.

We will have to wait until 2024 to know who will succeed (spoiler alert) Laurent Paquin and Richardson Zéphir, who won – tied – the first season of LOL: who laughs last?, which landed on Prime Video last January. The two comedians engaged in a heated battle until the end, surviving the successive eliminations of Math Duff, Christine Morency, Rachid Badouri, Édith Cochrane, Marie-Lyne Joncas, Virginie Fortin, Arnaud Soly and Yves P. Pelletier.

Prime Video plans to confirm the identities of the star contestants of LOL: Who Has the Last Laugh? next week at New City Gas in Montreal, during its 2023-2024 programming launch. A third season of the show is already planned.

Amazon’s on-demand content platform is clearly banking on humor to break into the Quebec market. Since last winter, it has offered For One Evening Only, four evenings of stand-up led by various comedians, such as Dominic Paquet and P-A Méthot. This fall, she will relay the Ultimate Just for Laughs Gala, recorded last summer at the famous Montreal festival, with Yvon Deschamps, Martin Matte, Louis-José Houde and Daniel Lemire.

Since March, he has offered Meanwhile in the Kitchen, a documentary series devoted to the daily lives of chefs from great local restaurants. Prime Video has also resurrected the soap opera Nuit blanche (a second season is being filmed), in addition to proposing the creation of a documentary series on the influencer Élisabeth Rioux. We also expect The Sticky, a series inspired by the historic maple syrup theft in 2012, co-produced by Jamie Lee Curtis. Actors Guillaume Cyr and Suzanne Clément took part in the filming.

On the Netflix side, we note the agreement with Just for Laughs TV for three comedy shows in French, concluded last spring. The American giant has also hosted Math Duff’s solo show since December. Nothing to report at Disney and Apple TV.

Unsurprisingly, the menu of local platforms, ICI Tou.tv Extra, Club illico and Crave, is much richer in new Quebec content.
