Once again this year, Quebec books are popular with subscribers to the Bibliothèque et archives nationaux du Québec (BAnQ), which published its list of the most borrowed documents of 2023 on Monday.

Let Our Joy Remain, by Kevin Lambert, is the most borrowed novel of 2023, followed by The Alaska Sanders Affair by Joël Dicker, by Maple – a trashicomic thriller, by David Goudreault, and by Montréal-Nord, by Mariana Mazza. A sign that Quebec literature is doing well, the proportion of Quebec novels appearing in the BAnQ rankings increased from 20% in 2018 to 50% last year and this year.

From zero to millionaire – investing in the stock market without suffering, by La Presse journalist Nicolas Bérubé, comes in first place in the Documentaries, essays and biographies category.

In the Comics category, 10 of the 12 comic artists present are from Quebec. The Little Astronaut, by Jean-Paul Eid, rose to first place, while six volumes of Riad Sattouf’s series The Arab of the Future appeared on the list.

As for children’s books, the British J. K. Rowling remains the darling: seven of her books – led by The Ickebog – are among the 20 most borrowed novels.
