(Montreal) Singer Lizzo has responded for the first time to accusations of harassment and discrimination filed by three former dancers, calling the allegations “unthinkable” and “outrageous.”

In a statement shared Thursday morning on social media, the artist tried to discredit his accusers by claiming that they had already admitted to themselves that they had been told that their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.

She explained that she puts her heart into her work, and that she held her and her team to hard work and high standards.

“Sometimes I have to make tough decisions, but it’s never my intention to make someone uncomfortable or feel unvalued as an important part of the team,” she said.

The civil lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleges that Lizzo pressured dancers to touch nude performers at an Amsterdam club and that the singer humiliated one for her weight gain, before dismissing her.

The plaintiffs, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, bring numerous charges, including sexual, religious and racial harassment, discrimination on the basis of disability, assault and forcible confinement, against the recipient of a Grammy award.

In her statement, Lizzo assured that she takes nothing more seriously than respect for women.

“I know what it’s like to be humiliated for my body on a daily basis and I would absolutely never criticize or fire anyone because of their weight,” she said.

“I’m not here to be seen as a victim, but I also know that I’m not the bad guy portrayed by people and the media in the last few days. »
