(Madrid) Spain’s Administrative Sports Court has requested additional documents from the executive in order to rule on its complaint against National Federation boss Luis Rubiales, who sparked international outrage for his forced kiss to player Jenni Hermoso.
The Higher Sports Council (CSD), a government body, said on Tuesday that it had “delivered to the Sports Administrative Court (TAD) the (additional) documentation requested”, namely various press releases published since the start of this case which plunged the Spanish football in chaos.
The TAD began examining on Monday the government’s complaint against Luis Rubiales, a leader who sparked international outrage for forcibly kissing world champion Jenni Hermoso after La Roja Women’s victory in the World Cup final on August 20 in Sydney.
The government accuses Mr Rubiales of having committed “very serious offences” by abusing his authority and undermining the dignity of his position as boss of the Spanish football federation (FREF).
If the TAD, the administrative court competent in sports matters, deems the executive’s complaint admissible and decides to open proceedings, the government may then, within 48 hours, suspend Mr. Rubiales from his duties, the time that the case be judged on the merits.
Mr. Rubiales has already been suspended by the International Federation (FIFA) for 90 days.
No details were given by the TAD on how long it would take to examine the executive’s complaint.
In front of the press, the Minister of Sports, Miquel Iceta, responded on Tuesday to criticism of the supposed slowness of the procedure by stressing that the government wanted to be “fast”, but “efficient” and above all “to avoid future appeals which could lengthen the procedure “.
