USA Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson added familiar names in Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler to his squad on Tuesday, as well as bringing in LIV Tour’s Brooks Koepka.

The Americans will try to stop a famine of three decades without victory on European soil.

At the Italian event, Johnson will also be able to count on Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns, who will be competing in the Ryder Cup for the first time.

Burns did not win a game at the Presidents Cup held in North Carolina last year.

Johnson notably left out Cameron Young, who finished ninth in the Ryder Cup standings, and Keegan Bradley, a two-time winner this season and 11th in the standings.

Fifteenth in the standings, Thomas has not tasted victory for 15 months. Plus, he wasn’t in the top 70 in the FedEx Cup qualifiers earlier this month.

However, he is 6-2-1 in two Ryder Cup appearances.

Spieth is a champion of three major tournaments. He has taken part in every edition of the Ryder Cup since 2014.

The matches will take place from September 29 to October 1 at the Maro Simone club, not far from Rome.

The Americans haven’t won away from home since 1993 at Belfry, England.

The European team will be finalized after the European Masters Tournament which is presented this week, in Switzerland.

Luke Donald will also have six captain’s picks to make.
