Will the summer of 2022 take place without being disrupted by the Covid-19? For the first time since the start of the epidemic, a summer period with almost no health restrictions is being prepared on French territory. After the end of the health and vaccination pass, the government has lifted the obligation to wear a mask in public transport since Monday May 16, 2022.

Thanks to the recent evolution of the epidemic, the daily life of the French is no longer governed by health restrictions. For the past few weeks, all epidemiological indicators have turned green. Here are the latest figures from Covid-Tracker:

Despite an improvement in the health situation at the national level, 19 departments are still particularly affected by Covid-19. Check them out in the slideshow below.

Summer is fast approaching. If the French will be able to enjoy their summer season without Covid, we must not forget to respect barrier gestures. Indeed, Europe is threatened by the arrival of new sub-variants of Omicron called BA.4 and BA.5. They were detected in South Africa in January and February 2022. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has already alerted European states to these viruses which “will become dominant in the months to come”, as reports France Info.

A situation that could lead to “a significant increase in the number of cases”, as indicated by the ECDC.

In the event that these sub-variants become the majority, the executive could “ask the question of a booster vaccination next fall if ever a wave emerges”, as indicated by the Minister of Solidarity and Health, Olivier Véran, after the Council of Ministers, Wednesday May 11, 2022.
