(San Francisco) Digital giant Google announced on Tuesday that it will now integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its cloud computing offerings for companies looking to take advantage of this technology.

Announced at the Cloud Next group’s annual conference, which is being held face-to-face for the first time since 2019, this new feature is aimed primarily at companies working on data discovery, online collaboration, translation or images.

The conference started the day after OpenAI launched a professional version of its ChatGPT AI, which seeks to compete with Microsoft, which was the first to start in this segment.

If AI is watched with attention by many companies, they must rely on cloud giants – Microsoft, Amazon Web Services or Google – to have the computing power necessary for its use.

These groups have therefore decided to partner with AI developers, like the framework agreement signed between Microsoft and OpenAI, or to develop their own models, as Google does.

The group also plans to open its cloud to AI tools developed by other groups, such as Meta or Anthropic, with the hope of positioning itself as a kind of one-stop shop for this type of service.

Currently, more than 70% of young companies specializing in the development of AI and with a valuation exceeding one billion dollars, among which Anthropic, Jasper or Runway, are already customers of Google Cloud, assured the vice -Chairman of the AI Market Group, Philip Moyer, during a press briefing.

“All of these companies offer their AI models alongside Google’s,” Moyer insisted.

Among the first customers of the AI developed by Google, the group cites the manufacturer General Motors, which intends to integrate the group’s conversational tool into its vehicles.

According to Google, the number of its cloud customers related to generative AI has increased fifteenfold over the last quarter, with interest in these projects “bewildering”, according to Google Cloud vice president June Yang.

Google also integrates AI into office tools such as Meet or Docs, which are part of its Workspace suite, and which has more than three billion users, according to the group.

Among the AI tools in Workspace, a digital assistant that can take notes during online meetings or even attend them in place of someone, says Google.

Options that allow people who are overwhelmed with their schedules to be “in two places at the same time”, having the notes at the end of the online meeting, but without taking part or being able to provide feedback.
