A reminder is enough for each day. Listeria monocytogenes, foreign bodies, E.Coli… There are many reasons that can lead a distributor to withdraw a product from the shelves. Since the implementation of the Rappel Conso site by the government, reminders are all centralized on the same platform. Supermarkets, too, each have a dedicated section on their official website. This is the case, for example, of Carrefour, which is one of the favorite supermarkets of French consumers. In our slideshow below, discover all the products recalled in this brand at this time.

According to figures from Rappel Conso, there have been more than 300 recalls per month since April 2021. In one year of existence, the platform has published more than 4,000 references withdrawn from the shelves. A significant peak was observed in July 2021, with nearly 1,000 products recalled in one month. This is explained in particular by a massive recall of ice cream, caused by the presence of ethylene oxide, a toxic product by inhalation.

The effects on ingestion are still unclear for humans, the current data only indicating that animals massively exposed to this gas have developed cancers. At the microphone of RTL, the professor of toxicology Alfred Bernard specified that these cancers had been identified “at the level of an organ which does not exist in humans”.

Ethylene oxide is an organic compound used in particular in India to eliminate mold and bacteria, but is strictly prohibited in Europe. If ice cream was one of the products that was very represented on the side of the recalls, other foodstuffs such as flour, oils or spices also had to be brought back to the store.
