Choosing the right first name is an important step when adopting a pet. If the first names of the animals are partly subject to the letter system (U in 2023 and the combination V-W-X-Y-Z in 2024), the choice is also influenced by fashions. The proof is, with this new ranking of the names most given to cats in 2022, unveiled in the annual barometer of I-CAD, this Monday, June 12. But if giving a beautiful first name to our animal is important, protecting it by identifying it is even more so, recalls the database, under the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Identification is mandatory in France for dogs, cats and ferrets which correspond to the three most domesticated animals. 95% of these animals already are, according to the I-CAD. This system allows both to have it recognized, but at the same time to make it travel abroad. You are also more likely to find it in the event of loss or theft, which have increased considerably in recent years.

In 2022, there are nearly 66,493 cats declared as “lost” in France. Among them, only half 30,688 are found. The organization also insists on the need to have your cat identified. Indeed, the French “often forget, in the euphoria of reunion” to declare their animal. This recognition allows in particular to find the name of your cat.
