On the occasion of the Salon de l’Agriculture, from Saturday 25 February to Sunday 5 March, RTL invited all its listeners to vote for their favorite regional culinary speciality. If chicken and fries is the favorite dish of the French (according to a survey by Sociovision for TF1), this time it was a question of cuisine, and particularly local cuisine. And for good reason: France is renowned throughout the world for its gastronomy and its terroir.

“The great thing about France is that we have a cuisine that is extraordinarily varied in our very small country. 50 km away, we have a dish that will change completely! There has a summer kitchen, a winter kitchen…”, exclaimed Jean-Sébastien Petitdemange, radio columnist specializing in tourism and French gastronomy, at the microphone of RTL.

The multitude of French regional specialties were inscribed in the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2010 under the name “gastronomic meal of the French.” The social practice that surrounds the meal, conviviality but also the link to the terroirs were thus honored.

It is for this reason, while the Salon de l’Agriculture was in full swing, that RTL honored nine local dishes, for as many regions. When voting closed on Sunday March 5, 106,878 listeners had voted. Columnist Jean-Sébastien Petitdemange then unveiled the final standings: check it out in our slideshow below.
