(Richmond Hill) Motor vehicle sales continued to rise in June, rising 12.6% from the same month last year, specialist firm DesRosiers Automotive Consultants said on Wednesday.

A total of 161,901 vehicles were sold in June, representing an increase of 1.38% compared to May. It was also the eighth consecutive month of sales growth on an annual basis.

In a statement, DesRosiers managing partner Andrew King said the seasonally adjusted annual rate for June hit its highest level since February at 1.64 million. It had been 1.54 million in May.

The company says year-to-date sales have reached around 813,000 units, up from 756,000 in the first half of 2022. In 2018, they had reached 1.04 million over the same period.

General Motors led sales in the first half of 2023 with 127,561 units, up 15.7% from a year ago.
