(Vancouver) After Ontarians, residents of British Columbia can now order and have legal cannabis delivered to their homes, thanks to a partnership between Uber Eats and the company Leafly.
Uber Canada says that starting now, BC residents over the age of 19 can use the Uber Eats app to order cannabis from authorized local retailers.
The press release from Uber Eats specifies that its deliverers will not intervene. Instead, certified cannabis retailer staff will deliver the order to the customer and verify the age and sobriety of the recipient.
Thirteen retailers in Vancouver and Victoria are working with Uber Eats on this new service in British Columbia.
It is not mentioned in Uber Canada’s statement when cannabis delivery might expand to other cities in the province.
Uber says the launch of the service in British Columbia comes six months after working with Leafly to offer cannabis delivery in Ontario. This was Uber’s first experience delivering cannabis.
Aaron Sinnathamby, president and CEO of ARCannabis, one of the B.C. cannabis retailers that works with Uber Eats, said in a statement that its province-certified delivery people will enforce local regulations for cannabis transactions, including verification of identity documents.
