(Beijing) Canadian Mirela Rahneva won the bronze medal in the women’s skeleton event at the World Cup in Beijing, China, on Friday.

Rahneva, 35, returned to the Yanqing National Sliding Center for the first time since the 2022 Winter Olympics, as the Skeleton World Cup season gets underway.

The Ottawa resident took third place with a total time of 2:03.99. Reigning world champion Tina Hermann of Germany took gold with a time of 2:03.81. China’s Zhao Dan (2:03.83) won the silver medal.

This was Rahneva’s 14th World Cup medal. She wants to improve on her third place in the general classification recorded during the last season.

Her compatriots Jane Channell and Hallie Clarke finished the event in 12th and 15th position respectively on Friday.

The World Cup circuit continues on December 8 in La Plagne, France.
