(Montreal) Torrential rain delayed the start of the game between CF Montreal and New York City FC on Saturday night at Saputo Stadium.
The two formations had not had the opportunity to jump on the ground in order to warm up due to the rain, but especially the lightning. The match was scheduled to kick off at 7:39 p.m., but was postponed.
Around 8:15 p.m., the CF Montreal players began to warm up to the applause of several brave men waiting to take their seats.
According to MLS rules, there must be no lightning within approximately 13 kilometers (eight miles) of the site of the matchup for 30 minutes before warm-up or play can resume. Each time there is a lightning inside this radius, the waiting time starts again from zero.
The Montreal Alouettes, who host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Percival-Molson Stadium, are struggling with the same situation. The game is due to start at 8:40 p.m.
