The fair Art Basel has announced, through a communiqué, that the edition 2020 at its headquarters in Basel has been cancelled definitely. In a first time it was decided to delay the move from June to September . Specifically, from 17 to 20 September, with days of previous visit on 15 and 16 September. The decision was made in collaboration with gallerists, collectors, partners and external experts “with the objective of protecting the health and safety of our community and ensure that the fair is attended by the largest possible number of collectors, curators, and arts professionals”. The global director of Art Basel, Marc Spiegler , he was grateful for the support and understanding of the galleries.
According to the press release, “despite the fact that there are signs of hope as countries come out of the lock, the global situation remains precarious and, unfortunately, are too many uncertainties to go ahead with the fair. Among them, the health risk that represent the great meetings, the limitations on travel intercontinental, and the regulatory environment swiss little clear shows the size of Art Basel. Given these uncertainties, we believe that the best option with respect to the Basel fair is to focus on the editing of next year, and offer a fair of international quality that is exceptional in the world of art is waiting. The next edition of the Basel fair will take place 17 to June 20, 2021 .
