A writing grant for Nathalie Doummar and a project around La Mouette for Catherine Vidal.

La Manufacture announced this week that the Jean-Denis Leduc Scholarship (2022-23) is awarded to Nathalie Doummar, the company’s author-in-residence until 2024. The scholarship, in the amount of 15,000 $, bears the name of the founder of La Manufacture and La Licorne. It has been recovered for nine years. Doummar has already created the pieces Coco and Sissi at La Licorne.

“The Unicorn is my cradle, a safe space. That’s where I discovered myself as an author,” she said in a statement. Remember that his piece Mama, created last year, will be revived from July 14 to 29, at Duceppe, as part of the Just for Laughs Festival.

In addition, the French Theater of the National Arts Center (NAC) will present the project of its creator in residence, Catherine Vidal. This is a show around La Mouette, by Chekhov, in a translation by Guillaume Corbeil. Vidal – who has just been appointed co-director of Quat’Sous – will sign the staging.

His proposal is a “mise en abyme around the themes evoked in the work of the repertoire: art and creation, the generational gap, the thirst to take its place for young artists, the expiry date feared by established artists , traditions and the avant-garde”…

We will find in the distribution Macha Limonchik, Renaud Lacelle Bourdon, Nathalie Claude, Simon Beaulé-Bullman, Olivia Palacci, Igor Ovadis and Mattis Savard-Verhoeven. The show will be presented at the NAC in Ottawa from April 11-13, 2024.
