(Val-D’isère) Jasmine Flury won her second World Cup victory on Saturday, as the Swiss skier triumphed in a downhill race.

Sofia Goggia rose to the top of the discipline rankings in the absence of Mikaela Shiffrin.

Flury was 0.22 seconds ahead of compatriot Joana Haehlen and 0.24 seconds ahead of Austrian Cornelia Huetter.

The race was delayed due to a violent fall by Canadian Stefanie Fleckenstein.

The race was stopped for about 20 minutes so the Whistler skier could be treated and taken off the course on a stretcher en route to hospital.

Fleckenstein fell at the end of the course and screamed in pain as he slipped at the finish.

Flury’s only other World Cup victory was a super-G in Switzerland six years ago. The 30-year-old also triumphed in the downhill at the world championships in February.

“After the World Championship, to now win a World Cup race, it takes a bit of pressure off me. I’m really, really happy,” Flury said.

“It was a crazy race, very tricky. The slope was a little bumpier [than Friday]. I just tried to apply a good amount of pressure on the outside ski. »

Running in bib #6 and with most of the favorites skiing after her, it seemed unlikely that Flury would stay in the lead.

Ultimately, none of these favorites reached the podium.

Haehlen finished second for the third time.

“It’s perfect,” said the 31-year-old skier. Sharing the podium with Jasmine is what you dream of when you’re young. »

Goggia finished fourth, 0.44 behind Flury, after a mistake in the second part of the course.

Goggia nevertheless took the lead in the discipline. The Italian, who has topped the downhill World Cup standings for the past three seasons, has 17 points more than Flury and 20 more than Huetter.

Shiffrin, who won this season’s other downhill last week, is 30 points behind Goggia.

The American is selective in her descents, given a racing and training program that prioritizes slalom and giant slalom.

Shiffrin still leads the overall World Cup standings where she is aiming for a sixth title, which would tie a record.

She is 163 points ahead of Federica Brignone, while Lara Gut-Behrami is 28 points behind.

A super-G is planned for Sunday in Val d’Isère.
