Good news for Air Miles points card users: the loyalty program announces a partnership with Dollarama.
Air Miles became the property of BMO last month. The Bank had therefore announced that new partnerships were imminent, as well as an improvement to the program. Mastercard or BMO credit card holders will be entitled to additional points when shopping at Dollarama.
The offer is all the same surprising, when you know that it is a bank that owns Air Miles and that the promotion will favor credit card holders from other banking institutions, notes Jean-Maximilien Voisine, president founder of Milesopedia.com, a site specializing in rewards programs.
“It’s a good move that Air Miles and BMO did,” he said, however. “Dollorama is a valued brand, especially in these times of inflationary environment.”
However, we should not cry out right now for the rebirth of Air Miles, specifies this observer who detects a lot of “fuzziness” in Wednesday’s announcement. In particular with regard to the use of receipts in the Air Miles application of the future. “We wonder what it is,” says Jean-Maximilien Voisine, who is waiting to see the next program announcements before better evaluating his recovery.
“Our promise to Canadians, especially in these tough economic times, is to provide the most flexible and expansive ways to earn miles on everyday purchases,” said Shawn Stewart, President of the AIR Reward Program MILES, in a statement issued Wednesday morning.
Air Miles has nearly 10 million users in Canada, but has seen better days. Several of its partners have dropped it in recent years, such as Jean Coutu and IGA, which preferred to turn to an in-house loyalty program.
Dollarama has 1,500 stores in Canada. The partnership with Air Miles will begin on August 7.
