Everything is in everything. To enhance the majestic mural in tribute to Françoise Sullivan, the main financial partner of the project, the Art of Canada collective, is putting up for auction… a rare work by the artist.

The work in question, Red Only No.1, was painted by Françoise Sullivan in 2016 and is part of the Damiers series, which also inspired the mural in her tribute. According to the auction website, the value of the 60-inch by 72-inch canvas is between $40,000 and $60,000.

This auction aims to finance the second phase of the mural project, which consists of adding lighting and video projections of various works by Françoise Sullivan. The mural work will thus become “visible day and night” and “multidisciplinary just like the honored muse”.

Remember that the Damiers 2023 mural was inaugurated on October 2 in the heart of Montreal to mark the 100th birthday of Françoise Sullivan, a key figure in Quebec visual art. Painted on the wall of the Hyatt Hotel, the 2,000 square meter work was designed by Françoise Sullivan and produced by the MU organization.

The auction, currently underway, will end on November 19 at 2 p.m.
