(Detroit) The Detroit Pistons set a record for mediocrity with the longest losing streak in a single season, losing a 27th straight game Tuesday, 118-112, to the Brooklyn Nets.
Cam Johnson scored 24 points and Mikal Bridges scored 21 more to lead the Nets to victory.
Cade Cunningham scored 41 points for the Pistons, who were tied with the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers for the worst losing streak heading into the game. The 76ers own the worst overall streak, which is 28 games, starting in the 2014-15 season and ending the following season.
Cunningham scored 37 points in the second half. Bojan Bogdanovic was the only other Pistons player to score more than 15 points.
Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe each had a double-double for the Nets, who beat the Pistons for a second straight game.
A three-point basket from Dorian Finney-Smith completed a 13-0 run that put the Nets up 105-97 with 4:53 left in regulation.
Cunningham missed two free throws, but redeemed himself with a successful throw for three points, as well as a good play for three more points for the Pistons. The score was 109-106 Nets with 1:54 left.
Finney-Smith put the Nets ahead 115-110 with 38 seconds left.
Alec Burks missed his shot for three points and the Nets then confirmed their victory from the free throw line.
The Pistons started the game with a 22-8 run, giving their fans hope. The Nets, however, dominated the rest of the first half 53-32.
