Winter is officially over. This Monday March 20 marked the arrival of spring in France, after three months of a winter that was not really one, alternating between mildness and lower temperatures, absence of rain then showers. This first day of the new season saw rather mild temperatures and calm weather, with sunshine in many areas and little precipitation.

As La Chaîne Météo explains, spring is characterized by “very high thermal amplitudes”, sometimes over a day. Between the freshness of the morning and the mildness of the afternoon, it is not uncommon to leave with your coat on your back and come back carrying it under your arm. If this off-season is synonymous with the return of fine weather, it can also experience “late frosts”, especially during the period known as the Cold Riders (April 28, April 30 and May 6) and the Ice Saints (from 11 to May 13).

The first days of spring will be marked, this week, by a certain mildness, with temperatures approaching or exceeding 10°C in the morning in all regions and above 13°C in the afternoon. Here are those expected for this Wednesday, March 22:

Another meteorological phenomenon is common in spring: thunderstorms, which are particularly present during the month of May. The latter will also be back in France at the end of this week in ten departments. Is yours affected? Check out the list below to find out.
