If temperatures are starting to rise in the south-west of France, this is not yet the case in all regions. Indeed, La Chaîne Météo announced for the week of April 17, 2023 sunny spells throughout the territory with the arrival of heat. Thus, from Wednesday April 19, you may be one of the lucky ones welcoming sunny skies in certain departments.

However, the anticyclone responsible for this mild air mass does not yet extend to all of France. As the editorial staff of La Chaîne Météo explains, the phenomenon of “the cold drop (cold air at altitude) brings instability, showers develop during the afternoon in the east in particular, more marked on the reliefs”. If the presence of some sunny spells was announced for the morning, these will give way to a cloudy and stormy afternoon in certain departments. Discover in our slideshow below the departments concerned.

“The anticyclone is strengthening and bringing better conditions to the country”, specifies the editorial staff of the Weather Channel. Nevertheless, the latter specifies that this mass of dry air will not prevent “a little instability in the afternoon with a few scattered showers, more marked on the reliefs”. The north of France will be particularly affected by a few showers which may reach Normandy.

On the other hand, the Mediterranean rim seems spared from precipitation and strong winds. The east of the country will be affected by showers and potentially thunderstorms. Indeed, Météo France places 16 departments on yellow storm vigilance for the afternoon of April 18. As a reminder, a yellow vigilance indicates that you must remain attentive to this phenomenon. The orange color represents a higher alert and the red color indicates absolute vigilance.
