Miami Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane will likely miss several weeks of activities after suffering a knee injury in his team’s victory against the New York Giants.

Head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that the team is still trying to determine the severity of Achane’s injury, and he declined to specify when it occurred or the timeline for his return to play. According to NFL Network, Achane is expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Achane, who was selected by the Dolphins in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, leads the league with an average of 12.1 yards per carry and ranks second in yards with 460 in just 38 races. Only San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey is ahead of him with 510 yards.

Achane’s injury means veteran Raheem Mostert, who has scored seven touchdowns and 314 rushing yards so far, will be asked to play a larger role in the Dolphins’ ground attack. It could also accelerate the return to play of Jeff Wilson Jr., who spent the first portion of the regular season on the injured list due to various injuries.
