(New York) Karolina Muchova reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open on Sunday, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 over Wang Xinyu.

This is the longest run in New York for the 10th seeded Czech.

Muchova reached the final at Roland Garros three months ago, losing in three sets to Iga Swiatek. Muchova also reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2021.

She hit 32 winners, offsetting 37 unforced errors. Her rival made 42 unprovoked errors.

“I was true to my game, with a lot of brush strokes to change the rhythm,” Muchova told the crowd at Louis Armstrong Stadium. That was the key. ยป

Her next rival will be Sorana Cirstea or 15th seed Belinda Bencic.

Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton engage in an American duel at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Paul beat Shelton in four sets in Melbourne this year, in the quarter-finals.

Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are the other Americans in round four, on the men’s side.

The American Coco Gauff, seeded sixth, will play against Caroline Wozniacki later in the afternoon.

In the evening, 23-time major champion Novak Djokovic will face Borna Gojo of Croatia before a duel between favorite Swiatek and 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko.
