(New York) Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her New Zealand playing partner Erin Routliffe advanced to the first round of the U.S. Open in women’s doubles on Thursday.

Dabrowski and Routliffe, 16th seeds, defeated American Lauren Davis and Czech Anastasia Detiuc 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 in one hour 36 minutes of play.

The winners hammered 34 winners against 25 unforced errors, while the losers hit 20 winners and committed 32 unforced errors.

Dabrowski and Routliffe broke their opponents’ serve eight times in 17 break opportunities. Davis and Detiuc were 4-for-7 in a broken situation.

In the second round, Dabrowski and Routliffe will face the winners of the match between Britain’s Katie Boulter and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva against Taiwan’s Fang-Hsien Wu and China’s Lin Zhu.
