(New York) Quebec’s Leylah Fernandez and her American partner Taylor Townsend advanced to the second round of the US Open women’s doubles main draw.

Fernandez and Townsend defeated Americans Olivia Center and Kate Fakih in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 on Wednesday in 61 minutes.

Laval’s Fernandez and Townsend made five of their 12 break points.

The duo won 83% of their points on first serve, compared to 52% for their opponents.

Fernandez and Townsend also dominated in the second ball, winning 73% of their points against 42%.

They will now cross swords with the winners of the duel between the French Alizé Cornet and the Polish Katarzyna Piter against the Spaniards Rebeka Masarova and Aliona Bolsova.
