Bob Murdoch, a former two-time Stanley Cup champion defenseman, has died at the age of 76.

The NHL Alumni Association announced the news on Friday.

Murdoch played 12 seasons in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, the Los Angeles Kings and the Atlanta and Calgary Flames, between 1970 and 1982. He had 60 goals and 218 assists.

He won the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1971 and 1973.

Murdoch also coached in the NHL. He was also the winner of the Jack-Adams trophy in 1990, at the end of his first campaign behind the bench of the Winnipeg Jets.

In 2019, he learned that he had dementia and Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
