Josph Woll made 36 saves in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Woll has given up just four goals in three starts this season, posting a 27-save shutout in the process. He shows an efficiency rate of .957 so far.

John Tavares and William Nylander both scored, getting at least one point in every game so far this season. They respectively scored their third and fifth goals of the campaign at the start of the second period to make it 3-0.

Nylander and Tavares have 10 points this season, during which the Leafs have won four of their six games so far.

Captain Auston Matthews put the visitors four goals ahead in the second. His 140th goal on the road allowed him to join Quebecer Dave Keon in fourth place in the history of the organization. Mats Sundin (203), Darryl Sittler (158) and Ron Ellis (146) are ahead of him.

Defender Morgan Rielly opened the scoring in the first.

This is a third straight defeat for the Capitals, who are only ahead of the Seattle Kraken, the Anaheim Ducks and the San Jose Sharks in the overall NHL standings.

Alex Ovechkin was still looking for a first goal this season. He opened his account in his fifth match of the season by hitting the target at the very end of the second period. It was his 300th power play goal and 3,000th in Capitals history.

After going two consecutive games without a single shot on target for the first time in his career last week, Ovechkin started this match like a lion. He took seven shots in the first period alone, a first since November 25, 2015 for him.

“Ovi” also obtained his 13th career penalty shot – he did not score this time –, equaling the Bettman circuit record previously established by Quebecer Vincent Lecavalier.

Darcy Kuemper was tested just 17 times, allowing four goals.
