Difficult to make cheaper. While the SNCF is often singled out by travelers for the prices charged, the new offer from Renfe – its Spanish counterpart – will not help matters. As Capital explains, the Spanish railway operating company arrives in France and promises journeys to several cities in Spain: Barcelona, Madrid, Girona, Tarragona, Zaragoza and Figueres. Tickets at 29 euros are available from Lyon or Marseille and others at 19 euros for a departure from Montpellier or Narbonne.

Determined to strike a blow, Renfe will also offer tickets at 9 euros to travel… In France! According to what the company explains on its site, these routes will connect the 10 French stations it serves. Here are the ones mentioned:

Please note that this price of 9 euros only concerns the one-way ticket on a domestic journey. The date on which tickets will go on sale is not yet known and should be announced soon by Renfe. In its press release, the company adds that “it will be the first time that a Spanish train driver will drive trains beyond Perpignan”: “This is an important step for the Spanish company, which has in France a priority market for its internationalization”. The objective is now for Renfe to “become a reference operator on the French rail market” and to extend its TGV operations to other lines, in particular that linking Paris to Lyon.
