(Toronto) Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman John Klingberg’s season is over.

Club general manager Brad Treliving told reporters Wednesday that the 31-year-old is scheduled to undergo hip surgery in the coming weeks and will be sidelined for up to six months .

Klingberg signed a one-year contract worth US$4.15 million on the free agent market to add to the Leafs’ offense. He didn’t seem to acclimate to Toronto and had only five assists in 14 games.

He played his last game on November 11 and was placed on the long-term injured list last month.
