(Amsterdam) Kylian Mbappé scored his 41st goal with the France team on Friday by opening the score quickly in Amsterdam against the Netherlands, equaling Michel Platini’s total in as many caps (72).

Mbappé and Platini are now tied for 4th place in the ranking of top scorers in the history of the Blues, dominated by Olivier Giroud (54).

In a well-constructed action on the right side, the PSG striker perfectly volleyed a cross from full-back Jonathan Clauss in the 7th minute. In the event of a victory in the Johann-Cruyff Arena, the Blues can already qualify for Euro-2024 in Germany (June 14-July 14).

Giroud became the sole record holder for goals in the French team by scoring against Poland in the World Cup at the end of 2022, his 52nd goal in the tricolor jersey, surpassing Henry’s mark which had stood since 2009.

Thierry Henry (51) and Antoine Griezmann (44) still surpass Mbappé. But at only 24 years old, the now captain of the Blues could quickly take the lead in this symbolic ranking.

Platini ended his international career at the age of 32 after eleven years in the blue jersey.

Among his 41 goals, Mbappé has scored four in World Cup finals, including a hat-trick in the defeat against Argentina in 2022, making him the top scorer in World Cup finals.
