(Minneapolis) Kirk Cousins connected with rookie Jordan Addison twice in the end zone in the first half, Camryn Bynum threw two interceptions off Brock Purdy in the fourth quarter and the Minnesota Vikings defeated the San Francisco 49ers 22- 17, Monday.
Christian McCaffrey had two touchdowns for the 49ers (5-2), who lost a second straight game for the first time in 34 outings.
Addison made the play of the game when he had the upper hand on a contested catch at the expense of 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward in the final moments of the second quarter. He escaped from his opponent to score a 60-yard major which gave the Vikings a 16-7 lead (3-4).
Addison, who shines during the absence of star receiver Justin Jefferson, caught seven balls for 124 yards. He notably completed a 14-yard play on a third down and four that seemed to seal the outcome of the game in the fourth quarter.
But then kicker Greg Joseph missed a 50-yard field goal.
With no timeouts and 1:11 left, the 49ers took the ball at their 40-yard line. Purdy, who was intercepted with 5:30 left, completed two short passes to reach the Vikings’ 40-yard line. But Bynum sniffed out a pass up the middle to Ray-Ray McCloud III and jumped to intercept the ball.
The 49ers will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, while the Vikings will visit the Green Bay Packers.
