The 250-page illustrated book Rose à l’île will be released on August 10, its publisher, La Pastèque, has announced. Despite this new format, this will be Michel Rabagliati’s 10th book featuring Paul, his alter ego.

When his 9th graphic album, Paul à la maison, was released in 2019, Quebec illustrator and cartoonist Michel Rabagliati did not know if Paul’s adventures would continue.

The black and white album featured his alter ego in the present. Gone are the memories of his youth, his experiences as a scout or his first apartment, we found Paul today, in a dirty state, lonely and depressed by his separation, the death of his mother and the departure of his daughter to England. . Among others.

It is precisely his daughter Rose that we will find at the heart of this illustrated book (also published in black and white). There will be talk of a stay with her in a chalet on Île Verte, in Bas-Saint-Laurent. Paul’s first father-daughter vacation. We are in 2017.

“After a personal slump, professional fatigue and the death of his parents, he [Paul] feels the need to take stock,” writes La Pastèque in the short presentation of the new 256-page illustrated book. “In this peaceful, thought-provoking haven, Paul will begin a new chapter in his life. »

As for this new format, Michel Rabagliati explains that it imposed itself. “It seemed incongruous to cut up the wild majesty of this island into boxes and strips. The ink and the pen also appeared to me as too hard and too radical tools to describe it. So I opted for this presentation, ”he wrote in the press release published by La Pastèque.
