(Vancouver) Teck Resources announced on Thursday the death of an employee at the expansion of its Quebrada Blanca copper mine in Chile, on the sidelines of the publication of a profit attributable to shareholders of 510 million for its second quarter, in down from the 1.7 billion it had recorded for the same period last year.

Chief executive Jonathan Price said lessons from the investigation into the employee’s death are being shared with other company employees and industry peers to help prevent future incidents.

Teck cut its annual production forecast for the copper project from 100,000 tonnes to 80,000 tonnes, due to delays in its construction and commissioning.

For the quarter ended June 30, Teck earned earnings per share of 97 cents, compared to $3.07 in the same quarter a year ago.

The company’s quarterly revenue totaled $3.5 billion, compared to $5.3 billion in the second quarter of 2022.

On an adjusted basis, Teck said it earned $1.22 per share for its most recent quarter, compared to an adjusted profit of $3.25 per share a year earlier.
