ANSES, the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety, is a “public administrative establishment, it is under the supervision of the Ministries of Health, the Environment, agriculture, labor and consumption”, as its official website tells us. This agency carried out a study on the pollutants that can be found in tap water in France.

Between pesticides and explosives, this study tells us that we also find solvent there. franceinfo and Radio France have also produced a map “on the pollutants never measured in tap water” in France. But which cities are most affected by this phenomenon? Visit our slideshow, available below, to discover the list of cities that contain the most solvent in their tap water.

The National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety tests the presence of possible new molecules in tap water every three years. This year, some of them have been discovered as potentially harmful to health, “this is the case with this solvent called 1,4 dioxane, classified as a possible carcinogen. If there is no health threshold in drinking water for this product in France, it is already in the sights of the American health authorities”.

Find out if your city of residence is one of those affected by this solvent, in our slideshow below.
