(Berea) Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson sat out a third straight practice this week, meaning he is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Watson is bothered by a bruised shoulder, an injury he suffered on September 24 against the Tennessee Titans. He unexpectedly sat out the Browns’ game against the Baltimore Ravens the following week, and the Ohio team hoped he would get better during their bye week.
Watson is not ready to return to practice, however, and is likely to miss a second game Sunday, when the Browns (2-2) host the powerful 49ers (5-0).
Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said the situation at quarterback is still “developing.” Van Pelt admitted it’s possible Watson could play without practicing, but acknowledged it would be better if he got some reps with the offense.
The day before, the Browns promoted quarterback P. J. Walker ahead of rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the backup quarterback position, behind Watson.
