Rapper André 3000 has just broken a record by reaching the Billboard Hot 100 chart with a 12-minute, 20-second long-running song. But that’s not all: it’s a song… on a flute. New Age, to boot.

Founder of the hip-hop group OutKast, André 3000, whose real name is André Benjamin, has accustomed the public to smashing global hits, like Ms. Jackson and Hey Ya.

Here he is again with a, how shall I put it, different song. The title is appropriate – also long. I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a ‘Rap’Album But This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time, which can be translated as: I swear, I really wanted to make a rap album, but it’s literally the way the wind carried me this time.

The New Age music track reached position 90 – the longest to ever appear on Billboard magazine’s famous chart. He downgraded Tool’s song Fear Inoculum, which was only 10 minutes and 21 seconds long.

Released in November, André 3000’s new instrumental album, New Blue Sun, reached number one on Billboard’s New Age albums chart. The equivalent of 24,000 albums were sold in the United States in the first week after its release.
