(Atlanta) Quebec offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron will start the NFL season as his name appeared on the Atlanta Falcons roster released on Tuesday.

Same goes for Sidy Sow, also a member of the offensive league, with the New England Patriots.

The absence of Matt Hennessy, who will miss the entire season due to an injury suffered in training camp, opened the door for Bergeron. The athlete from Victoriaville should therefore begin the campaign as a guard on the left.

Bergeron was a second-round pick (38th) from Georgia this year. He completed his college career at Syracuse, in the NCAA.

Other Falcons offensive linemen are Chris Lindstrom, Drew Dalman, Jake Matthews, Joshua Miles, Jovaughn Gwyn, Kaleb McGary, Kyle Hinton and Ryan Neuzil.

Football fans could see Bergeron in action on Sept. 10, when the Falcons host the Carolina Panthers as the season opener.

In Sow’s case, the Granby native was a 4th round pick of the Patriots in the last NFL Draft. In preseason games, Sow took advantage of injuries to Cole Strange and Mike Onwenu to get noticed. The challenge will be huge, however, as the Patriots have plenty of depth on the offensive line.
