(Toronto) Quebec golfer Étienne Papineau failed Monday in his attempt to qualify for the United States Open via a qualifying tournament played at Lambton Golf

Papineau, of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, was the top Canadian, but he finished three strokes behind earning an invitation to the next major PGA tournament.

Ryan Gerard, Vincent Norrman and Ryan Armor got all three passes in play.

Gerard, of Stuart, Fla., topped the 27-man tournament by playing all 36 holes 11 under par.

Norrman of Sweden followed at 8 under, and Armor of Silver Lake, Ohio, at 7 under.

Michael Block, a club pro who made headlines by finishing tied for 15th at the recent PGA Championship, was also unable to secure his invitation to the US Open. He finished the Toronto tournament at 5 under.

The U.S. Open will take place June 15-18 at the Los Angeles Country Club.
